Memoirist Dilue Rose Harris (1825-1914) arrived at Stafford’s Point, Texas, with her family in 1833. During the Texas Revolution she made bullets for the defenders of the Alamo, was acquainted with the revolutionary leaders, and fled with her family during the Runaway Scrape in 1836. After Texas gained its independence, the Harrises moved outside of Houston where she attended school. In 1839, she married Ira Harris with whom she had nine children.
